Today we will observe the 18th year anniversary of the terrorist attacks known as 9/11 or Patriot's Day. For us as teenagers, this is not an event you experienced personally but many of your family members, teachers, and other people you know lived through the attack and all that followed. As we near September 11th, we encourage you to ask your parents and other adults about their 9/11 memories and the changes they have seen in the last 18 years. Listen carefully to their stories and try to put yourself in their place, a situation we hope you never have to endure.
Today, at BHS we will be recognizing Good Deeds Day- a day of charitable engagement. You are encouraged to consider intentionally doing a good deed for someone else on Wednesday. Good deeds can be as simple as giving someone a ride, reading to a small child, sending a thoughtful note, or picking up trash in your neighborhood or on campus. You can send a thank you note to a first responded (firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical technicians), donate books/toys to a shelter or Good Deed Day is a positive and constructive way to annually remember and pay tribute to those killed or injured on 9/11. Feel free to use #911Day or #bettpride to share your good deed.
