Feb 21, 2020

Congratulations to BHS Science Teacher Spencer Mesick for receiving STEM Innovator® Teacher Certification. He now has the skills to infuse innovation and the entrepreneurial mindset into their classroom. STEM Innovator® engages students in solving authentic, community-driven, real-world problems by working in multidisciplinary teams. STEM Innovator® students learn to identify a problem of interest, verify and validate the problem through customer discovery, and establish and implement a solution. Along the way, students explore multiple careers and gain the skills to be college and career ready.

The University of Iowa’s Jacobson Institute, along with the Colleges of Engineering and Business, strongly believes innovation skills and the entrepreneurial mindset are necessary for our students’ success in the 21st century, where they will be challenged with solving difficult problems as they prepare for jobs of the future. That’s why they certify STEM Innovator® teachers to engage high school students in these concepts and offer top STEM Innovator® students the opportunity to earn college credit.
