The Bettendorf Bulldog’s Boys Swim team, lead by Head Coach Mike Ahrens and Assistant Coach Fenner Hengst will travel to Marion, IA to participate in the IAHSAA State Swim Meet this Saturday. Co-Captain’s Graham Besser (sr), Noah Mitvalsky (jr), and Alex Stone (jr) are joined by Carter Anderson (jr), Colin Kilcoin (jr), Brock Ohlensehlen (jr), Keaton Weaver (so), and Ricky Zillmer (fr).
Despite multiple school, gym and pool closings due to the worst pandemic in a century, these young men used innovative methods to maintain their mental and physical strength throughout the past year. All 23 swimmers, including varsity and junior varsity, were at the pool before 5 am and did not leave until after 6 pm nearly every school day, only to return to practice on Saturday. Swimmers performed at an outstanding level at the JV Conference and the District meets, with significant time drops and several podium accomplishments. The coaches created a healthy and safe environment to strengthen the swimmers throughout the season. The hard work of the entire team helped support these 8 young men to qualify for the state championship.
There will be no spectators allowed at the State Meet, but you can watch them live at https://www.nfhsnetwork.
