The Bettendorf Speech and Debate Team had a successful event this weekend at the Speech/Debate - Bulldog Invitational.
We ended with:
- 16 schools in attendance
- 148 total students from said schools
- 56 total judges from said schools or hired by the tournament
We had 204 people in the building Friday/Saturday, not counting our parents/staff helping with concessions. Schools arrived around 3:45 pm on Friday and closed shop up around 9 pm. Then, we returned to action on Saturday around 7:45 am to 4:30 pm.
The biggest thanks of all came from multiple students/judges/coaches who said this event is always their favorite of the year. A big shout-out to our first-year assistant coaches (Carri Toppert and Micah Brotzman) who handled things with grace all weekend.
The following students end the tournament with some awards. They included:
Katie Baltos - 3rd Place in Informative Speaking
Kimbree Callahan and Heath Leone - 2nd Place in Duo Interpretation
Max Rockwell - Runner-Up in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate and 1st Place Speaker in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Charlie Silver - 1st Place in Spontaneous Speaking and 2nd Place in Extemporaneous Speaking
MaKaylee Wilson - 1st Place in Program Oral Interpretation
